I loved this. Halloween is, indeed "dread to the parent who loathes shopping and can't sew." As one who has had to run into K-Mart five minutes before closing on Oct 30th way too many times, I fully appreciate your eloquent dislike for this most demanding of holidays. Loved this! I loved Halloween as a kid because it was the one holiday that parents were not deeply involved in. That’s gone out with bonnet hairdryers from what I can tell. VERY funny about the soup looking like Satanic projectile vomiting!

This is so good. I laughed and I nodded in solidarity. My kids are grown now, too, and I remember all of this so well, right down to the soup.
I keep telling myself to buy some damn candy and now u think I'll just turn off the lights. Soup sounds good !
